To celebrate Texas' rich history and educate future generations about the Lone Star State's heritage, the nonprofit Friends of the Flag Foundation is hosting its 12th flag-raising ceremony Saturday at Conroe's Lone Star Monument and Historical Flag Park. The park showcases Montgomery County as the birthplace of the Lone Star Flag with 13 historical battle and rally flags that depict those that flew during Texas's fight for independence. The parked opened on April 21, 2011 — San Jacinto Day in Texas — next to Conroe's Central Library and the nonprofit oversees the park.
